The popular phrase that “the walls have ears” has become a reality. Or at least, a reality in the process of testing. Researchers from the Disney development team and scientists from Carnegie Mellon University (Pennsylvania), led by Yang Zhang, have managed to transform a wall into a kind of giant touch screen. Called Wall++, it is a solution that turns a simple wall into a screen. It is capable of detecting movement , elements that are activated or deactivated in that space, and detecting magnetic noises. Passivhaus - Requirements for choosing windows How is it made? At first glance it appears to be a very normal wall, however, there are several layers that allow it to become an intelligent structure.
First, a layer of conductive paint is applied , to which a network of very fine cables is added , creating a network of electrodes. Another coat of standard latex paint is then applied, with which all the wiring is hidden. Photo: Yang Zhang. Everything that sounds like innovation and the latest technologies is usually not cheap, however, the objective of Wall++ is for it to be a “low cost ” solution, with an approximate price of €16.70 per square meter. A cost that could be reduced if the product were successful and manufactured on a large UAE Phone Number scale. What is it for? Although at first glance we may not understand what use it would have for walls to be “smart”, the truth is that their uses are quite broad. Using a tablet or computer we could see the location and operation of the appliances in that space (whether they are on or off), allowing us to control the lighting in the space or detect how many people there are in it.
As this is a first prototype, its creators are still thinking about possible uses, such as controlling music using gestures in the air, blinds, etc. Photo: Yang Zhang. For the most video game fans, it has many advantages, since an entire wall could become the best setting for certain motion games , which Conference room From the KÖMMERLING Challenge we want to congratulate the organization of the Pioneers of Modern Spanish Architecture Congress and the authors of the selected works for their effort and dedication to be able to show us these projects.
